The IC697BEM731 is a Genius Bus controller module that is part of the GE Fanuc series 90-70 Programmable Logic controller (PLC) family. This module is primarily used to connect up to thirty (30) devices and transfer data by passing tokens between all configured devices on the same bus.
The IC697BEM731 has a (1) channel for interfacing with devices residing on the same bus, and a (1) Handheld Monitor (HHM) port for downloading the configuration to the module using the MS DOS or Windows programming software Configurator feature.
When the IC697BEM731 was delivered, it did not provide a defined bus address. By default, the standard address set by the configuration software is 153.6 Kbaud and the bus address is 31. This default address can be modified by downloading a valid configuration to the CPU. When configured with 153.6k baud (standard), the maximum allowable distance of the communication bus is 2000ft; 3500 feet when configured at 153.6k baud (extended); 4,500 feet at 76.8 k baud and 7,500 feet at 38.4 k baud. All devices located on the same bus or network must be configured to the same baud rate, otherwise communication will not be established or may be unstable.
