Firewalls are a new and unique solution introduced to solve the important problem of protecting industrial networks from malicious or unexpected outages. Unlike standard, highly sophisticated "IT-style"
firewalls that require trained staff to install, Tofino? devices only require a field technician to connect power and two network cables, and then go.
Tofino? is pre-configured to allow only MODBUS/TCP traffic through the firewall, blocking all other traffic. It also ensures that only MODBUS traffic is allowed from the network side where the MODBUS
master station is located, thus blocking any unsolicited traffic from MODBUS slave stations.
The system has the flexibility to protect small plants with a single PLC, or multinational organizations with thousands of critical pieces of equipment scattered across the globe. By deploying Tofino? devices between the Honeywell C300 network and other MODBUS devices, SCADA and Process Control provide a layered security solution for their systems.
