The direct current of the rack can enter the sub-rack through the dc input card. The power supply can be supplied by the user from an external nominal 24V DC power supply. The dc power supply is connected to all cards in the rack via the engineering card and subrack backplane, and is protected by a fuse on the DC input card. There is a two-part terminal board, TB1, which helps to remove the card while constantly opening each connecting wire.
To prevent excessive current along the rack backplane in installations using more than eight 5704 catalytic cards, it is recommended that the control card be powered through its associated four-relay interface card and the DC input card used to power the engineering card only.
Backup battery power can also be connected to a secondary DC input connection if required.
The PSU and auxiliary connections are isolated from each other by diodes.
The DC input card also provides RFI filtering and reverse polarity protection.
